A non-profit organization promoting wildlife carving and art.
The Nova Scotia Wildlife Carvers and Artists Association was formed in 1989 and now has members throughout the Maritimes and Newfoundland. Our first competition was held in the fall of 1989, and since then, some of our carvers have advanced to world class artists, bringing home ribbons from the Ward (World) Competition in Ocean City, Maryland.
The club meets every Thursday from September to June at the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History on Summer Street in Halifax for carving sessions, with a short 1/2 hour business meeting every third Thursday of the month. The sessions include workshop carving projects, but members are also welcome to work on their own carvings. We also have advanced carvers or invited guests to demonstrate specific carving techniques or special interest subjects. Classes and instruction are available through individual members and continuing education courses.
The club distributes a newsletter four times a year for its membership. Upcoming events, association business, carving tips, library list and related subjects are featured in this publication.
The club also maintains an extensive library of books, videos, study birds, study fish and study bills for use of the members. A mail service is provided for members living outside the metropolitan Halifax area.
The highlight of the club is its annual Atlantic Wildlife Carving Competition. Open to all carvers, the association awards ribbons, trophies and prizes in the Youth, Novice, Intermediate and Open classes. Judges invited from across Canada and The United States are master carvers and world class authorities on wildlife art. The next show will be held at Fleet Club Atlantic on Barrington Street in Halifax in May 2012 (see above for dates).
The Nova Scotia Wildlife Carvers and Artists Association recognizes the support provided to us by the Province of Nova Scotia through the Department of Tourism, Culture & Heritage for our annual Atlantic Wildlife Carving Show & Competition. We are pleased to work in partnership with the Culture Division to develop and promote our cultural resources for all Nova Scotians.

For further information on joining the club or finding out more about its activities, see the Membership and Contacts sections.
The Nova Scotia Wildlife Carvers and Artists Association also has a Chapter in the Truro area, known as the Colchester Chapter.
