WHAT’S COMING UP… 

 

NS Wildlife Festival 

September 15-16, 2001 

 

We are invited to participate in the first Wildlife Festival held at Fisherman’s Cove, Eastern Passage. 

 

Come and join the activities. Saturday will offer nature hikes and lectures throughout the area, and Sunday will be the main event with booths, demonstrations, lectures, music, boat tours, hiking, food, contests and more.

 

Anyone interested in displaying their work and/or demonstrating at this event, please call Carl Purcell.  We need a number of carvings for display, which can be dropped off to Carl.

 

Fall Session

 2001-2002

 

The first meeting of the new carving year will be held at the NS Museum of Natural History, 1749 Summer St., Sept 20, 7:30.

     an Avocet Slick

 

“THE AVOCET”

Earl and Sheila Young will introduce carvers to the art of carving and painting a working confidence bird,  demonstrating how to read a pattern, shape the slick and paint the avocet in breading colors. A minimal fee of $55.00 will cover pine cut-outs, eyes and pattern. Anyone wishing to use their own from basswood or tupelo should use the pattern in Wildfowl Carving Work bench Projects, “Championship Service Class Shorebirds” by Del Herbert. The same pattern was published in  Wildfowl Carving Magazine Winter 1998 issue. A reduced fee of $35.00 will apply for anyone using their own cut-out and eyes.

 

To register for this carving seminar call or write to Alan Dorey before Sept 20. Space is limited.  Bring your own tools and be prepared to start carving immediately after the business meeting .

 

 

COMPETITION 2002

Date set for May

 

The Atlantic Wildlife Carving Competition and Show will be held at the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History, May 24-26, 2002. Theme Bird 2002 is the Pintail Duck. 

Keith Mueller has accepted the position of Chief Judge for the 2002 Competition

Sleeping Sanderling

 

Raffel Tickets are now available for the sleeping Sanderling carved and donated by Glen McMurdo.
